PAFP Residency Community Health Impact Grants aim to support & strengthen the community health outreach scholarly work that is foundational to Family Medicine Residency training.

ALL Pennsylvania FM Residencies are eligible to receive a grant up to $25,000 for a qualifying RIG project proposal.

The RIG program is funded by a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Health, as an enhancement to the PAFP Residency Expansion Program.

Projects must be resident-led; members of the project team are requested in the online application form.

Cohort 1 and 2 (Required): Present poster at RIG Summit & PAFP Research Day 2025; Cohort 2 and 3 (Required) 2026 events.

Funding Distribution Schedule Cohort 2: Initial 50% funding released with signed agreement by December 30, 2024; Balance reimbursed upon budget reconciliation and submission
of final report by September 30, 2025. Receipts for expenditures required. Program/Institution will need to carry second 50% of expenses pending reconciliation at conclusion of project. It is not recommended that residents or faculty utilize personal credit cards for RIG expenses.

Defining Community Health Outreach:
Community health outreach is a temporary,
mobile project that involves the collaboration of a community to undertake its
purposeful health intervention of reaching a population facing health
risks. For the purposes of this mini-grant program, “community”
includes residency program teams comprised of residents, faculty and others,
collaborating with the community they serve to target an identified health need
and make a positive impact on the health within that community.

Budget should be well-researched and informed, inclusive of non-resident clinical staff, equipment, travel expenses related to project and participation - for example:

Medical equipment essential for resident project activity

FTE time for preceptors and other clinical team members essential for resident activity, however, PAFP Foundation RIGs will not reimburse for "indirects."

Printed promotional and educational materials

Small tokens for patients/community members participating in your outreach program (gift cards, transit cards, food)

Venue expenses for your project

Printing research poster (for PAFP Research Day)

Team travel to PAFP Research Day (registration fees, mileage, one night hotel stay)
