To recognize and honor PAFP member physicians in Pennsylvania who are committed to the very best in patient care, public health and teaching, the PAFP awards the following three honors each year:
Family Physician of the Year -
In recognition of outstanding patient care and dedication to the field of family medicine, this award is given to physicians who demonstrate a commitment to the highest quality of care for patients; are engaged with the community; and serve as role models to patients and colleagues. The PAFP Family Physician of the Year is selected each year from among PAFP physician members in good standing who are directly and effectively involved in community affairs and activities that enhance the quality of life of the community. Public Health Award -
In recognition of the highest level of commitment to improving the health of individuals, communities and regions, and advancing the field of public health, this award is given to physicians who demonstrate a commitment to advancing quality health care for all, focusing on issues of access, equity and inclusion. The PAFP's Public Health Award recognizes important contributions family physicians make to improving community health at the state or local levels. Learn about past winners.
Exemplary Teaching Award -
In recognition of the highest level of commitment to student learning and success, this award is given to physicians who employ innovative teaching methods to further their students' excellence; support and sustain mentorship practices within academic and/or health care systems; and serve as role models in patient care. Award Dates & Details
Nomination Period: January 22-February 10, 2024. 2025 dates to be announce later this year.
Nomination Deadline: February 10
Who can nominate? Anyone can nominate a PAFP member physician for these awards. Patients, colleagues, peers, students, mentors — all are encouraged to nominate the excellent physicians in their lives. Self-nominations are also welcome.
When are award winners announced? Awards are announced each year at the Annual Business Meeting as part of the PAFP's Spring CME Conference. Winners are notified prior to the public announcement and are invited to make brief remarks during the Annual Business Meeting luncheon as part of the PAFP's Celebration of Excellence in Family Medicine.
How are award winners celebrated? Award winners are featured in the spring or summer issue of Keystone Physician magazine; press releases about the awards are sent to media outlets across the state; and the award winners receive a trophy/plaque to display in their offices.
All nominations are reviewed by a task force of the PAFP Board of Directors following the nomination deadline. All nominations must have complete information according to the nomination form.
