PA Legislators sworn into office, flurry of bills introduced

On Tuesday, Jan. 7, members of the Pennsylvania General Assembly were sworn into office, kicking off the 2025-26 legislative session. Rep. Joanna McClinton (D-Philadelphia) was reelected Speaker of the House while Sen. Kim Ward (R-Westmoreland) was reelected Senate President Pro Tempore. A flood of bills have already been introduced, including many related to health care. Gov. Josh Shapiro is set to give his budget address on Tuesday, Feb. 4, introducing his proposed spending plan for the 2025-26 fiscal year and marking the start of budget negotiations between the administration, House, and Senate. The PAFP will continue to share updates on legislative activity as the session progresses.
