Medical Marijuana Bill Introduced in Pa. Senate
Sen. Mike Folmer (R-Lancaster) has reintroduced his bill which passed the Senate last session that would allow physicians to prescribe medical cannabis for specific conditions including cancer, post-traumatic stress disorder, post-concussion syndrome, multiple sclerosis, and ALS. Sen. Folmer, a cancer survivor, explicitly prohibits smoking marijuana in his bill, Senate Bill 3, which has broad bipartisan support. Meanwhile, the new majority leader in the House, Rep. Dave Reed (R-Indiana), said he supports the idea and hopes to see a House version and hearings as soon as next month.

Full Medicaid Expansion on the Horizon
The launch of Healthy PA, former Gov. Tom Corbett’s Medicaid expansion plan, has not gone as smoothly as hoped. To date, the Dept. of Human Services (DHS) estimates 151,000 consumers applied (with only 55,000 who were actually enrolled), delays caused by requests for personal financial information, and individuals placed into the plans that couldn’t meet their needs. Stay tuned as full Medicaid expansion is being sought by new Gov. Tom Wolf to ensure the estimated 600,000 Pennsylvanians eligible for Medicaid receive coverage. Information will be shared as new developments occur.
