THINK HEART HEALTH ON LEAP DAY (Feb. 29, 2012)

Today is Leap Day, which means we have one extra day to observe American Heart Month! Family physicians, check out our EKG basics and advanced EKG interpretation Tip Sheets. Patients, do your part to stay heart healthy by following these simple steps from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Do you know an exceptional family physician who is community-minded and provides compassionate, comprehensive care? If so, nominate them for Family Physician of the Year! MEDICARE PAYMENT CUT DELAYED 10 MONTHS (Feb. 27, 2012)

The Medicare payment cut to physicians that was scheduled to go into effect on March 1 has been delayed. The pending 27 percent cut was frozen under legislation approved by Congress on Feb. 17. The 10-month freeze will remain in effect through Dec. 31.

The Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians is pleased to reveal The Patient-Centered Medical Home, the first ever comprehensive document on the PCMH model. Because of an overwhelming response from PAFP membership, registration for the Hershey Escape conference is now closed. PAFP RESPONDS TO 'DISHONESTY' STUDY (Feb. 9, 2012)

Pennsylvania's family physicians are committed to the safety and health of their patients. So when we at the PAFP heard about a recent study suggesting that doctors may put their patients at risk by lying to them, we felt we had to set the record straight: Pennsylvania's family physicians are not dishonest. Click here for more.

Feb. 10 is the deadline to submit your abstract for the PAFP's Research Day 2012! Please complete the online registration and don't forget to read over the presenter guidelines. This year's plenary speaker is Andrew Bazemore, MD of The Robert Graham Center.  
 
SLEEPLESSNESS LINKED TO OBESITY, DIABETES (Feb. 7, 2012)

A study by the University of Pennsylvania has linked sleep disturbances to obesity, diabetes and coronary artery disease. To stay educated on the treatment of these issues, take a look at the free online CME webcasts the PAFP offers, including Diabetes: Clinical Outcomes and Treating and Managing the Obese Patient.
 
STUDY: TOO FEW ADULTS GETTING IMMUNIZED (Feb. 6, 2012)

We usually think of children when we hear the word "immunization." But according to a recent study by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), too few adults are getting immunized. For more information, check out this CME webcast on adult immunization, and review the latest vaccine update.

SGR MESSAGE DELIVERED TO LAWMAKERS (Feb. 2, 2012)

This week, the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP) joined with other physician groups to ask lawmakers for a repeal of the sustainable growth rate (SGR) formula. AAFP leaders say the visit was a beneficial one. The AAFP's website has more information on SGR, including a form you can send your legislators.
