Government Affairs
NP Independence, Naturopathic Licensure; Pharmacist Injections
With the 2015-16 state legislative session set to begin, several scope-of-practice issues will be back again. A House memo is out, with a Senate memo not far behind, promoting identical legislation from last session that would allow for full nurse practitioner (NP) independence, eliminating the now-required collaborative agreements. Also, persons who achieve doctorates in naturopathic treatment will again be seeking licensing and expanded scope of practice rights, and pharmacists will be seeking to provide injections to minors. The PAFP does not oppose their administering the flu vaccine only for children over 8.
