$29.1 Billion Pa. Budget Awaits Gov. Corbett's Signature
|
|
Senate and House leaders have crafted a no-new taxes budget, despite a $1.5 billion deficit, that includes an additional $1 million dollars into the Dept. of Health’s Primary Health Care Practitioner Program – raising the line item to $4.61 million. The budget awaits Gov. Tom Corbett’s signature. The PAFP is slated to work with the department to expand family medicine residency slots for programs that yield physicians to medically underserved areas. Several non-budget related legislative items seem to be set for the fall, including a prescription monitoring bill, a pharmacist injection bill, and PCMH legislation initiated by the PAFP.

Immunization CME for Physicians, Practice Staff Available

PHYSICIANS: Physician leadership is key to proper vaccine management, and every bit as important as a physician recommendation for vaccination and standing orders. In 2012, the Dept. of Health and Human Services Office of the Inspector General (OIG) discovered physician offices frequently mismanage vaccines. Top problems include temperature fluctuations and storage of expired with non-expired vaccines. Avoid common problems! Read these storage/handling tips and watch a free CME webcast.
PRACTICE STAFF: Two mini-webcasts – Recommendations and Requirements for Vaccine Storage and Vaccine Administration Techniques and Tips – deliver critical education for any primary care practice that provides vaccinations. Visit www.pafp.com/vaccines for more.

PAFP staff was inspired to meet residents and students at the Direct Primary Care Summit 2014 and hear the call for connections to direct primary care (DPC) practices. DPC physicians are invited to contact Molly Talley to form a network to increase resident and student exposure and experience. Check out #DPCSummit and #DPCSummit2014 on Twitter to view live coverage of the event, discussions, and innovations already in practice by national DPC leaders.
