Gov. announces grant program for small businesses impacted by COVID-19
Gov. Tom Wolf has announced a $225 million statewide grant program for small businesses impacted by COVID-19 and the subsequent stay-at-home orders. The program is part of a larger plan passed late last month to allocate $2.6 billion in federal stimulus dollars from the CARES Act. The Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) will distribute the funds to the Community Development Financial Institutions that will then administer it through grants to small businesses. Guidelines for the small business grant program will be issued later this week.
Additionally, the state House passed PAFP-supported legislation that would update the medical licensure requirements for international medical graduates. House Bill 1947 would require international medical graduates to obtain only two years of residency training – rather than three – before being eligible to apply for an unrestricted medical license in Pennsylvania, bringing them in line with requirements for U.S. and Canadian medical graduates.
