DHS to implement Statewide PDL
Earlier this year, the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) announced its intentions to implement a statewide preferred drug list (PDL) for the state’s medical assistance fee-for-service and managed care delivery systems effective Jan. 1, 2020. Beginning Jan. 1, 2020, all medical assistance prescriptions designated as “non-preferred” on the new Statewide PDL will be subject to prior authorization. It is estimated that about half a million prescriptions will be impacted. The PAFP will be providing testimony at an upcoming legislative hearing on this issue and encourages members to contact your state Senator and Representative to express your concerns and the potential impact that implementation of the Statewide PDL will have on your patients.
