PAFP continues opposition to buprenorphine registration/fee bill
At the end of June with most eyes on the budget process, the PAFP, along with many other stakeholders, helped delay further movement of Senate Bill 675. PAFP President Dr. Mary Stock Keister issued this letter to the House Human Services Committee, which tabled the bill until September. Last week, the committee announced that the bill will be voted on September 18. The PAFP will continue to oppose the bill in its current form that would likely dissuade family physicians from obtaining or continuing their DEA prescribing certification.

Wolf administration shares Pa. opioid update
Gov. Tom Wolf has announced the number of overdose deaths in Pennsylvania was 18 percent lower in 2018 than in 2017. However, he said, the increase in overdose deaths from other drugs means that Pennsylvania must continue fighting the substance abuse epidemic. PRIME Registry: Building the future of primary care
The PRIME Registry is unleashing the potential of patient and community data to build better primary care, helping shift the focus beyond individual disease diagnoses to measuring what really matters to patients and clinicians. Join PRIME Registry, and help shape the future of primary care.
PRIME Includes:
- More Measures that Matter—through PRIME’s improved array of high-value primary care measures with demonstrated connection to improved outcomes and quality of life.
Doctors and patients agree that Patient Reported Outcomes (PRO) is meaningful. The PRO pilot launched in PRIME in April 2019 gives patients a voice, while giving clinicians valuable feedback. The PRO will roll out to all of PRIME later in 2019.
- Improved Health for Communities:
PRIME’s quality dashboard helps identify patients with quality gaps and helps practices see how they are doing compared to their peers.
The PHATE tool helps identify patients at risk due to social determinants and provides an in-clinic connection to resources in the patient’s community, while also illuminating areas where resources are needed. PHATE has the potential to help guide more personalized risk-assessment and access to patient resources.
- Reduced Burden for Clinicians:
PRIME’s quality data tracking and benchmarking, paired with the implementation of more “measures that matter” (comprehensiveness, continuity, PRO, low-value care) enables participating physicians to demonstrate high value in practice which has the potential for a positive affect on payments from both CMS and private payers.
