Venue rule update: Court will wait for legislative study
Pennsylvania Supreme Court Chief Justice Thomas Saylor has advised the legislature “a majority of the Court has determined to await the report of the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee (LBFC)” before ruling on a rules change to venue in medical liability cases. State Sen. Lisa Baker introduced Senate Resolution (SR) 20 responding to wide spread concerns about the proposed rules change. SR 20 passed the Senate 32-17, and the LBFC has until Dec. 31 to complete a report on the impact of the rule change. The PAFP lobbied for SR 20, conducted a grassroots advocacy campaign, and provided testimony to the House Majority Policy Committee by PAFP’s President David O’Gurek, MD.
