Pa. telemedicine legislation continues forward march
Senate Bill 780, sponsored by Sen. Elder Vogel (R-Beaver), last week received its first public hearing before the House Professional Licensure Committee since being received into the Pa. House of Representatives. The bill passed the Pa. Senate in June. While telemedicine has been utilized for years and is expanding into new areas, Pennsylvania does not have any statutory guidelines including relative to reimbursement. Strongly supported by the Hospital and Health System Association of Pennsylvania, the insurance industry opposes the bill in its current form
Education
No pigskin at Penn State, but plenty of enjoyment and education
At the PAFP’s 2nd Annual Procedures and Clinical Dermatology Sept. 6-7 in State College, 67 physicians and residents gathered in Happy Valley for the day-and-a-half event featuring workshops on cryosurgery, excision/shave/punch biopsy and dermoscopy, case discussions and sessions on everything from infant skin lesions to melanoma. Forty physicians visited Mt. Nittany Winery, including a fantastic session led by Dr. Rachel Day titled “Like a Fine Wine ... Care of the Aging Skin.” No home Penn State pigskin during the event, but we had plenty of “skin” of our own to keep everyone happy and busy! If you missed this terrific event, plans are under way for next year’s event. Stay tuned for details.
