Pa. legislature announces fall session
With just over three months until the general election, the Pa. House and Senate have scheduled their fall voting days. The House will reconvene on Sept. 12 with 10 session days slated, while the Senate will return Sept. 24 with 9 session days. Traditionally, at the end of the two-year session cycle neither chamber holds votes between Election Day and swearing in for the 2019-20 legislation session. The PAFP will focus on our agenda including continued opposition to nurse practitioner independence, support for prior authorization reform, and direct primary care legislation.

Efforts to curb overprescribing are having the intended affect, but that doesn't mean overdose deaths will drop any time soon: in fact, deaths from drug overdoses reached a new high of more than 60,000 in 2016, most from opioids.
