PAFP pushes DPC bill, residency expansion funding
With the state legislature scheduled to conclude for the summer on June 30, the PAFP is working to advance the Direct Primary Care (DPC) Authorization Bill, Senate Bill (SB) 926. The bill will likely be amended, yet we remain optimistic that it will retain its key goals. Members may help through utilizing SpeakOut or by distributing our new DPC Legislative Brief. Also, we have teamed up with several other associations working to secure funding in the 2018-19 budget to go toward the family medicine residency expansion grant that PAFP administers and helps fund nine new family medicine residency slots.

PAFP, HHS discuss opioids, payments, more
The PAFP recently met with Dept. of Health and Human Services Region III Director and former Rep. Matt Baker (a past PAFP Legislator of the Year award-winner) to discuss a number of topics, including the opioid crisis and strategies to increase access to treatment and reduce patient and physician barriers to care. Additionally, the PAFP presented the AAFP’s Alternative Payment Model: Advanced Primary Care and the principles to include addressing social determinants of health. Lowering drug prices and reducing administrative burdens were also discussed, and the PAFP encouraged reconsideration of the administration’s position on pre-existing conditions which could affect patients.
