State budget season set to begin
With economic growth, wage gains, and enhanced tax collection, the Independent Fiscal Office (IFO) is expecting revenue to near $34 billion in 2018-19. Yet for the current fiscal year, the IFO is estimating a $250 million deficit driven by federal litigation surrounding the state seeking monies to be transferred from the Joint Underwriting Association (JUA). A final forecast will be released on June 15. The General Assembly, meanwhile, has concluded its budget hearings examining Governor Wolf’s recommendations and will now focus on finalizing a budget before June 30.
