POLST legislation begins to move in Senate
The PAFP’s Board of Directors, along with many stakeholders, supports newly introduced legislation that will codify POLST orders across all health care setting thereby eliminating out-of-hospital do-not-resuscitate (OOH-DNR) orders for patient who voluntarily wish to have such an order. Senate Bill (SB) 623, introduced by Sen. Gene Yaw (R-Lycoming), moved favorably out of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee on Tuesday Dec. 12. While POLST forms are widely used, this legislation would authorize by law a POLST form, as a medical order, that may be used by an individual to designate end of life wishes.
