Slew of opioid bills under consideration
While some states have begun litigation against “Big Pharma” for promoting products that have contributed to the opioid epidemic, Pennsylvania lawmakers have introduced a dozen new bills related to opioids. Senate Bill (SB) 655 would mandate opioid-prescribing guidelines; SB 472 would prohibit more than a seven-day controlled substance prescription with exceptions; and House Bill (HB) 353 would require electronic prescriptions for controlled substances with exceptions. The PAFP’s Government and Practice Advocacy Committee is closely monitoring these efforts.

The obesity epidemic continues to spread across the globe. According to CNN, more than 2 billion children and adults worldwide - a third of the population - are overweight or obese and have health problems related to their weight. The U.S. has the greatest percentage of obese children and young adults at 13 percent.
