Government Affairs and Practice Advocacy
Nurse practitioner independence bill moves forward
Senate Bill (SB) 25, flanked by a raucous rally by nurse practitioners this week, passed 13-2 out of the Senate Consumer Affairs and Professional Licensure Committee, setting the stage for further action. The Pennsylvania Rural Health Association is the most recent group to endorse the movement, joining the Hospital Association of Pennsylvania, AARP, the Federal Trade Commission, and the VA, who in December gave nurse practitioners full practice authority in their facilities. The PAFP’s Board of Directors opposes the bill. Members are encourage to Speak Out against SB 25 and its House companion bill HB 100.
