Credentialing reform bill moves in Pennsylvania
On April 4,, the House Health Committee voted 21-3 to advance a bill that would reform Pennsylvania’s health provider credentialing process. Health Committee Chairman Matt Baker introduced House Bill 125 to enact major changes to address credentialing delays. The bill would empower the Pennsylvania Insurance Department to impose a uniform credentialing form on insurers, including Medicaid MCOs, and grant provisional status to physicians if the insurer fails to make a determination within 30 days. The PAFP, Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania Medical Society, and Pennsylvania Association of Community Health Centers support the bill.

'Speak Out' against nurse practitioner independence
The newly introduced Senate Bill 25 would eliminate the important patient safeguard of a required written collaborative agreement between a nurse practitioner (NP) and two physicians in Pennsylvania; a House version is also expected. Use the AAFP's Speak Out tool to tell your legislator to oppose this bill.
