Registration now open for prescription monitoring portal
|

Registration is now available for the Pennsylvania Prescription Drug Monitoring Program Portal, also called PA PDMP AWARxE. The Pa. Dept. of Health says the portal will be available for query Aug. 25, 2016. The monitoring program collects information on all filled prescriptions for controlled substances in the state.

Drug overdose deaths surge in Pennsylvania
|
More than 3,500 people died from drug overdoses in Pennsylvania last year, representing a 30 percent increase over 2014. According to PennLive, the latest report from the Pennsylvania State Coroners Association reveals that nearly 60 percent of those deaths involved heroin or prescription painkillers. The PAFP is working with the Pa. Dept. of Health on education regarding opioid prescribing practices and prescription painkiller abuse.
