After 3 years, NP independence bill set to move
|
|
On Wednesday, May 18, the Senate Consumer Affairs and Professional Licensure Committee is expected to advance Senate Bill 717, including a Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania-supported amendment stipulating that a nurse practitioner (NP) may only be independent after 36 months or 3,600 hours under a collaborative agreement. Since introduction in 2013, the Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians, along with the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the Pennsylvania chapters of the American College of Medicine and the American Academy of Pediatrics, and others have opposed the bill.
