Commission Releases Physician Shortage Report
|
|
Pennsylvania's Joint State Government Commission has released a report examining the state's shortage of physicians and proposing strategies to deal with the issue. The recommendations include improving physician workforce data collection and analysis, establishing a state pipeline program to prepare students for medical careers, increasing the number of residency positions to train more physicians in Pennsylvania, increasing financial support for the Primary Health Care Practitioners Program, and implementing the patient-centered medical home model of care. The Pennsylvania Academy of Family Physicians has scheduled 2015 Practice Manager Workshops for member practice managers and key staff. Spring sessions with be held the week of April 27, 2015 in State College, Pittsburgh, and Indiana. Not only will timely information on current practice management topics be shared, you will also have an opportunity to network with fellow practice managers in your area. Workshops take place from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. with breakfast served. Attendance and parking are free. Registration is now open! Details for fall sessions will follow at a later date.

CMS Issues Proposed Modifications to Meaningful Use
|
The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released a new proposed rule for the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs, aligning Stage 1 and Stage 2 objectives and measures with the long-term proposals for Stage 3.
Proposed changes:
- Changing EHR reporting period in 2015 to 90-day period
- Streamlining reporting by removing redundant, duplicative, topped-out measures
- Modifying patient action measures in Stage 2 objective related to patient engagement
- Aligning EHR reporting period for eligible hospitals, critical access hospitals with full calendar year
