PCMH, Prescription Monitoring Legislation Pass
In 2013, House Health Committee Chairman Matt Baker worked with the PAFP to develop legislation (House Bill 1655) to establish a PCMH Advisory Council and create a statewide plan within Pennsylvania’s Medicaid program, administered by the Dept. of Health and Human Services (formerly the Dept. of Public Welfare). HB 1655 passed finally this week, while Sen. Pat Vance’s prescription monitoring program bill (Senate Bill 1180) made it through both chambers last week. Gov. Corbett is expected to sign both measures into law.

Quality Improvement
Why Strategic Planning is a Must |
Strategic planning is crucial for any organization to determine its role, priorities, and direction. It’s necessary to describe what an organization plans to achieve and how to achieve it. This goes parallel with defining how it will measure achievement of its plan. With this accomplished, an organization will have guidance on decision-making, financial and human resource allocation, and the determination of needed action steps working toward its ultimate goals. Leaders and staff at various levels should be engaged in strategic planning to assure both buy-in and understanding of the strategic plan by the entire organization and its stakeholders.
