Pennsylvania Election Season Ramps Up |
|
With primary election day behind us, campaigns for the state House and Senate will ratchet up with just over five months until the general election on Tuesday, November 4. At the top of the ticket is the race for governor. Despite sagging poll numbers, Gov. Corbett continues to raise millions, on track to surpass the $30 million garnered in 2010. He has never lost an election.

CMS Sets New ICD-10 Compliance Date |
|
The Centers for Medicare & Medicare Services (CMS) recently announced the new deadline for ICD-10 implementation will be October 1, 2015. The delay was part of the Protecting Access to Medicare Act of 2014, which prevented a significant cut in Medicare payments to providers in March. A final rule needs to be issued; while it appears at this point Oct. 1, 2015 is the new deadline, we’ve been through this before. Future congressional action could still usurp CMS, as it did earlier this year.

May is Asthma Awareness Month: PAFP Offering Free Asthma CME |
Family physicians are in a key position to recognize poorly controlled asthma and improve asthma management. But significant gaps exist in asthma care for both patient- and physician-related reasons, including physicians’ overestimation of control. The following lectures were recorded at the November 2013 and March 2014 learning sessions of the Residency Program and Community Health Center Collaborative and are provided free by the PAFP (thanks in part to support from Genentech and AstraZeneca):

Pennsylvania Makes Progress With Health Information Exchange |
The Pennsylvania eHealth Authority is getting closer to launching the Pennsylvania Patient & Provider Network (P3N) which will serve as a method to transmit and share information between providers in Pennsylvania and across state lines. This "network of networks" will connect already existing Health Information Organizations (HIOs) to better facilitate the transfer of patient data. The Authority is placing a high focus on privacy and security to ensure the safety of all records transferred. The P3N will not be storing any patient information – only facilitating the transfer. For more information, click here to visit the eHealth Authority website.
