Pa. Medicaid Expansion: Corbett, HHS Meet Over Plan
After the Corbett administration decided not to expand Medicaid in Pennsylvania, it submitted a quasi-alternative named Healthy Pennsylvania under the section 1115 waiver provision of the Dept. of Health and Human Services’ Medicaid program. The plan would create a subsidized system wherein adults under 133 percent of the federal poverty level could be eligible for either private insurance or Medicaid depending on their health status. Now that the public comment period is over, closed-door negotiations are to begin between the administration and HHS officials. The PAFP urges haste from both sides to reach a resolution.

Practice Advocacy
Practice Manager Workshops Completed Successfully
In mid-April, PAFP staff held three Practice Manager Workshops in Harrisburg, Pittsburgh and Valley Forge. The agenda included information on ICD-10, the Physician Quality Reporting System, the Affordable Care Act, Meaningful Use, the patient-centered medical home, legislative updates, and much more. Practice managers learned and shared helpful tips and tools and appreciated the opportunity to network with others experiencing similar hurdles. Feedback has been positive, with requests for more opportunities to come together. Have your practice manager contact Tracy Koval at tkoval@pafp.com for more information – we’re looking forward to growing these workshops and engaging your staff!
