HAN Network: Important Tool for Family Physicians
Get the latest information on emergent public health issues and outbreaks through the Pa. Dept. of Health’s Health Alert Network (HAN) system. Under a cooperative agreement between the Dept. of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), you can receive an email whenever a serious public health issue arises. These can range from information on outbreaks to breaking news on pharmaceutical shortages. Issued judiciously (20 to 30 per year), these updates come from the physicians in the Dept. of Health’s Bureau of Epidemiology. Click here to register for HAN.

ICD-10 Test Claim Acknowledgement
During the week of March 3-7, 2014, the Centers for Medicare & Medicare Services (CMS) is giving providers, billing companies, and clearinghouses the opportunity to send test claims using ICD-10 codes to ensure their Medicare Administrative Carrier (MAC) is able to receive them. Their MAC will return a 277A claim acknowledgement that confirms whether submitted test claims were accepted or rejected. CMS may offer other weeks of acknowledgement testing after analyzing results from the March 2014 testing week. For more information, refer to your MAC’s website.
