Yes! PAFP offers both applicable sessions, each for two hours so you will meet your requirement by attending these events. These sessions are typically live; however, 2026 is going to be a bit different in that we will solely offer our online library beginning in May, which contains the mandated Opioid CME through the end of October. We will also post on our site a link to all of the Act 31 CME currently available. These offerings will include both online and live sessions. When Act 31 is offered live through PAFP, we report your attendance to the state so there is nothing you need to do after the session ends. For the Opioid education, you would self-report that credit to the state system.

A physician who provides care only to immediate family members. Physicians with an active retired license are excused from maintaining malpractice insurance and meeting CME requirements except Act 124 and Act 31. There are fees to maintain an active retired license.

As a condition of continued membership, active members are required to report at least 150 credits of approved CME every three calendar years. This period is called a re-election cycle. Once members have met the CME requirement, they are “re-elected” to AAFP membership. If re-election requirements are not met, membership is canceled. For AAFP members in their first re-election cycle, the cycle is four calendar years: the year in which they become an active member, plus the next three full calendar years. In order to be eligible for re-election, members must earn and report the required CME credits within their re-election cycle. In addition, CME credits must be reported in the year in which they were earned.  Active members must report at least 150 credits of approved CME every three calendar years (i.e., during their re-election cycle). The 150 credits must include at least 75 AAFP Prescribed credits.

The following exemptions of the continuing medical education requirement may apply for certain physicians:  A licensee who holds an active/retired license and who provides care only to immediate family members shall be exempt from continuing medical education, except for: 2 hours of child abuse recognition and reporting requirements and 2 hours of continuing education in pain management, the identification of addiction or in the practice of prescribing or dispensing of opioids. 

A physician applying for licensure in this Commonwealth for the first time shall be exempt from the continuing medical education requirement for the biennial renewal period in which initial licensure is acquired. A physician holding a temporary training license within the renewal cycle shall be exempt from the continuing medical education requirement. A physician who is on inactive status shall be exempt from the continuing medical education requirement.

Yes! You are automatically a member of both, as we are unified with the AAFP. Your AAFP dues cover both memberships.

Yes, we try to meet this criteria for all of our live CME events, and when this is the case this credit statement will be prominently noted on all educational material for that specific event.

Eeds is a PAFP member benefit whereby the PAFP pays your subscription fee for you.  It is the company that PAFP uses for CME tracking purposes. Each CME session PAFP offers is assigned a specific code (given for each topic at any live event), which you text to the number provided. Your credits will then be submitted to the AAFP on your behalf and your credits will be reflected on your AAFP CME Transcript. You may also enter CME credit you obtain from other sources into the system so everything is stored in one place. The system classifies patient safety, Act 124 Opioid education, and Act 31 Child Protection/Abuse education automatically so you can print out a transcript for any given period and keep for your personal files, or if ever audited, you can submit this to the state as proof of meeting all of your requirements.
