HEALTH CARE RULING EXPECTED IN JUNE (March 29, 2012) 

U.S. Supreme Court hearings over the health care law wrapped up yesterday, and a ruling is expected in June. This morning, the Wall Street Journal examines possible implications of a ruling against the law, and the Associated Press asks if any part of the law can survive if the court declares the individual mandate unconstitutional.  
 
AAFP PRESIDENT DISCUSSES RUC DECISION (March 28, 2012) 

Last evening, AAFP President Dr. Glen Stream discussed the Academy's controversial decision to continue participating in RUC with Dr. Mike Sevilla (Ohio family physician, blogger and friend of the PAFP) on Sevilla's Family Medicine Rocks podcast. Trust us - it's a must-listen for all who care about family medicine's future.

SCOTUS HEARS HEALTH CARE ARGUMENTS (March 26, 2012) 

This week, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear arguments on the Affordable Care Act, signed by President Obama in March 2010. At the heart of the case - the health care reform law's requirement that all Americans obtain health insurance by 2014. If you'd like to know more, please read this analysis by PAFP's legal counsel.

RENEWED FOCUS ON MTBI IN SOLDIERS (March 21, 2012) 

According to MedPageToday, the "signature injury" of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is the mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) brought on by explosive devices. 'SHOCKING' TEEN SMOKING STUDY RELEASED (March 8, 2012)

The U.S. Surgeon General says in a new report that the number of teen smokers is staggering - nearly one out of every four high school seniors. The report also highlights the importance of teaching young ones to stay away from tobacco. Check out the PAFP's anti-smoking initiative Tar Wars for a fun and successful education model.

PA. SUPREME COURT OVERTURNS MCARE FUND RULING (March 2, 2012)

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has determined that hundreds of millions of dollars in the state's general fund do not need to be used to pay down the unfunded liability of the Mcare Fund. The Associated Press has commentary from the Corbett administration and state medical associations. Click here to read the court's opinion.  
 
PAFP STUDENT LEADER HONORED (March 1, 2012)

PAFP Student Chair Andrew Lutzkanin has been honored by the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine for his scholastic achievements. The fourth-year Penn Stater is one of just five students honored nationally by the society. He'll win a scholarship and an opportunity to showcase his work. Be sure to follow Lutzkanin on Twitter!
